IG Sindh kidnapping incident: Sindh Rangers and ISI officials removed, ISPR


 (Sindh Tribune) : The Pakistan Army has completed the investigation into the concerns of IG Sindh over the arrest of Capt (retd) Safdar and removed the concerned officers of Sindh Rangers and ISI from their responsibilities.

 A statement issued by the Public Relations Department (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army said that according to the investigation conducted on the instructions of the Army Chief, Sindh Rangers and ISI Karachi officers desecrated Mazar-e-Quaid.  They were busy dealing with the situation created by the reaction. The officers were under intense pressure to take timely action as per the law on the desecration of Mazar-e-Quaid.

The ISPR statement said that the officers concerned, in view of the strong public reaction and the rapidly changing tense situation, found the conduct of the Sindh Police to be inadequate and sluggish in their knowledge and to overcome the tense situation. Demonstrated emotional reactions to his status.

 The ISPR said that the officers concerned should have avoided a situation which had created misunderstandings between the two state institutions.

 According to the ISPR, in the light of the recommendations of the Court of Inquiry, the officers concerned have been removed from their current responsibilities while action against these officers for violating the rules will be taken up in the GHQ.

Background of the incident

 It may be recalled that PML-N leader Capt (retd) Safdar was arrested from a private hotel in Karachi on October 19 in connection with chanting slogans at Mazar-e-Quaid and IG Sindh was pressured to arrest him. News was received.

 After the incident, all the top officials of the province, including IG Sindh, had decided to go on leave in protest, while Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also expressed reservations in this regard and appealed to the Army Chief to take notice.

 Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had telephoned Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the Karachi incident and assured an investigation.
