(Sindh Tribune) : Prices of fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed in Karachi's vegetable market. The price of tomato has gone up from Rs 180 to Rs 185 per kg. Onions are being sold at Rs 80 per kg, potatoes at Rs 50, peas at Rs 400, eggplants at Rs 120, ginger at Rs 720 and apples at Rs 150 per kg.
A pack of green coriander and mint is being sold for Rs 20 and a banana for Rs 160 a dozen.
Vendors say it is not possible to follow the official tariff. Vegetables in the vegetable market have increased the price. Vendors say that Commissioner Karachi should inquire from big middlemen so that prices can be controlled.
Prices of vegetables and fruits have not come down in Peshawar's Sunday Bazaar either. Tomatoes have gone up from Rs 80 to Rs 120 per kg.
Onions are being sold at Rs 65 to Rs 70, potatoes at Rs 70 and apples at Rs 110 per kg. Grapes are selling at Rs 70 and pomegranates at Rs 180.
Even in Islamabad's Towar Bazaar, food prices have not been brought under control. In Islamabad, potatoes are being sold at Rs 72 per kg, up from Rs 68.
The price of onion has gone up from Rs 58 per kg to Rs 70 and the price of tomato has gone up from Rs 96 to Rs 104.
Ginger is being sold at Rs 540 and garlic at Rs 160 per kg.
Tenda is being sold at Rs 120 per kg and Bhindi at Rs 46 per kg. Apples are being sold at Rs 110 per kg, bananas at Rs 70 per dozen and grapes at Rs 220 per kg.
