Amnesty India to Halt operations in India, following "systematic attacks, threats and harassment" from Modi regime.

(Sindh Tribune) : Amnesty has accused the government of indulging in a "witch-hunt of human rights organisations".

Amnesty says its bank accounts have been frozen and it's been forced to lay off staff in the country, and suspend all its campaign and research work.

Amnesty International has announced that it is being targeted by the Indian government for its actions and is suspending its operations in India.

The group has accused the Indian government of waging a campaign against human rights groups.

According to Amnesty, their bank accounts have been frozen and they have had to lay off all their work in the country by firing their employees.

The Indian government has not yet commented on the allegations.

Rajat Khosla, Amnesty International's senior research director in India, told the media that he was facing unprecedented harassment from the government, including "systematic attacks, threats and harassment".

"The reason for all this is our work for human rights and it is clear that the government does not want to answer our questions, whether it is our investigation into the Delhi riots or our attempts to silence voices in Jammu and Kashmir."

In a report released last month, Amnesty claimed that Delhi police had committed human rights abuses during the February riots.  However, in a statement to the Hindu daily, the Delhi Police denied the allegations, saying the Amnesty report was "one-sided, biased and malicious".
